army pay

If you have recently enlisted in the Army, you are probably wondering what we are all afraid to ask: What should I expect to be paid? More importantly, you probably want to know what your payment schedule will be and what your earning potential is. Fortunately for you, we have been through the process and are ready to pass on our knowledge to you!

Basic Training

Let’s start at the beginning. Did you know that you will be compensated during your Basic Training? You probably hoped this was the case, and yes, it’s true! As soon as you begin your training you will begin being compensated. You can expect to be paid on the 1st and 15th of every month. Even better, if you use certain military-related banks like USAA or Bank of America, you will receive your payment a day early.

Pay Scale

Once you are through with your Basic Training, your pay rate will be determined by your rank. The pay scale may vary year to year, but you can find out what the current salary for your rank is by checking out the most up-to-date 2016 Pay Chart.

Compensation & Benefits

In addition to being paid on the 1st and 15th of every month, you will also receive amazing benefits from the Army. These benefits include, but are not limited to, medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, a housing stipend and meals. Married? Your spouse is also eligible for these benefits for free or at a very low cost! You can learn more about the incredible Army benefits that are available to you on our Benefits of the Army page.

And Housing?

In addition to your pay (that you can calculate based on our 2016 Pay Chart), you may be eligible for a housing allowance. If you are married and/or living outside of the barracks, the Army will give you a housing stipend calculated by the averaging housing costs in your area. When living off-base you will also receive extra money to cover the cost of food for you, and if you have one, your family.

Joining the Army and starting Basic Training is hard work, but it does come with some major perks like consistent pay and incredible benefits for you and your family. Be sure to check out our Benefits of the Army page to learn more about the opportunities that await you after Basic Training.
